NAUS Commiserate With University Of Ibadan Students, Charges Gov’t To Beef Up Security Network In Student’s Area

The leadership of NAUS (National Association of University Students), through the office of the National Director for Campus Project, Information and Implementation has commiserated with the entire students of the University of Ibadan and its community at large over the death of two students.

It is with grief heart to hear the demise of two of our colleagues at University of Ibadan, who lost their lives to the cold hand of death. It’s indeed a tragic and sorrowful event in the students’ community.

One of the deceased, who was identified as Adeyemo Oluwaseun, a 200 level student of the department of Microbiology, Faculty of science who was reportedly hit by a car along Mobil Filling station, UI-Ojoo Road. When some hours later, Adegoke Adedayo, a final year student of the department of history, Faculty of Arts, was also murdered by suspected armed robbers at Pre-Boye axis, Ibadan that same day.

These are heart-wrenching event to the student’s community and grossly unbearable moment for us as our hearts filled with pains and agony.

NAUS calls on the government and all other concerned bodies to beef up the security architecture in those crisis prone students area; Agbowo, Ojoo, Orogun, Ajibode/Shasha and others, before the incessant attack on students goes out of hand.

As a body, we equally understand the nationwide security challenges and still in the knowledge of the measures put in place by the Special Assistant to the Oyo State Governor on Students Matter, Hon. Olojede Victor and Executive Chairman of Ibadan North LGA, Hon. Oladayo Shuaib in attempt to put an end to the recent security outfalls in those areas.

It’s on this note, we call on them to expand the network and engage more hands to keep students safe in Agbowo and other areas in U.I community. We also call on the men of Nigerian Police Force to ensure justice is served, we seek to know those responsible for the death of our people and ensure deserved punishment be meted on them.

We pray to Almighty God to overlook their shortcomings and gives their family and loved ones the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.
