The approval is in compliance with the Supreme Court landmark judgement.

According to an internal memo dated, December 21, 2021 and signed by the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, N1b was paid to the account of Ibadan North LGA for onward disbursement to the law firm of judgement creditors, which is Adeniyi Akntola, and Co.

The News Carrier NG reported how the Supreme Court delivered judgment in favour of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), elected by the administration of late former governor, Abiola Ajimobi, saying Governor Seyi Makinde was wrong to have removed them.

In its judgement, the court noted that the tenures of the sacked Council chairmen and Councillors, under the leadership of Abass Aleshinloye, have expired but all outstanding salaries and allowances must be paid with immediate effect.

Rather than ask them to return to their respective council areas, the court asked Makinde to pay all the council chairmen and councillors their salaries and allowances before August 2021.
