As Oyo State citizens mourn the death of the erstwhile governor of the state, Otunba Alao-Akala, a source close to the family informed Rulers’ World that the late governor was poisoned.
The source who spoke under the strict condition of anonymity said that the deceased started vomiting blood before some doctors were invited to attend to him but he couldn’t survive it.
The source further disclosed that Late Akala, upon his return from Abuja to Ogbomoso yesterday, held meetings with some people, watched a football match and went to bed. “There was no sign of any ailments on him. So we wondered what could have made him vomit blood”, said the source.
Meanwhile, another family source maintains that contrary speculation that he was poison, he said the late politician slumped in the bathroom while having his bath and could not be immediately resuscitated thereafter.
Akala was said to be planning to attend a funeral function of a close friend of his today and also held political meetings.
Rulers’ World also gathered that his family had concluded arrangements to hold a special 70th birthday anniversary for his first wife, Florence, who is the mother of Olamijuwonlo former Chairman of Ogbomoso North Local Government Area.
Many dignitaries had already been invited to grace the said birthday bash which was expected to take place in Ogbomoso this Saturday 15th January 2022 before his death occurred this morning.
“He was the Pillar of APC in Oyo State.”
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Oyo State Chapter, has commiserated with the families of the late Alao-Akala.
This was contained in a release issued and signed by AbdulAzeez Olatunde, APC Publicity Secretary Caretaker Executive Committee and made available to journalists this afternoon.
The release reads…
“Less than two years after the loss of His Excellency, Senator Abiola Adeyemi Akanji Ajimobi, APC Oyo State, today Wednesday 12th January 2022, shockingly got the sad news of the demise of the Pillar of the APC in Oyo, His Excellency, former governor Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala.
“APC Oyo State sadly commiserates with party members in Oyo State and the Diaspora and especially all Oyo State indigenes on the sad and shocking news.
Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala was born on 3rd June 1950. He had his primary education at Osupa Baptist Day School, Ogbomoso.
Otunba Adebayo Alao÷Akala had his secondary school education at Kamina Barrack Middle School and 5th Infantry School, both in Tamale, Ghana
Otunba Alao-Akala came back to Nigeria in 1974 to be enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force.
Former governor Alao-Akala had Police Senior Officers Training at Hendon Police College, United Kingdom.
Otunba Alao-Akala held several Command Positions like the O/C Advanced Training Wing of Police College, Ikeja.
DPO Bode Thomas, Iponrin, Nigeria Railway Quarter, Ebute Metta, all in Lagos.
CSP Yola Command, Old Gongola State.
CSP Admin, Ilorin, Kwara State.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in charge of Logistics and Supply, Eleyele Ibadan, where His Excellency, Otunba Akala retired in 1995. Otunba Alao Akala joined politics immediately and in 1996 participated in the zero party elections.
Otunba Alao-Akala is one of the co-founders of UNCP, a political party in 1996/97.
He contested and won the Ogbomoso North Local Government Chairmanship election under the banner of All People’s Party (APP) in December 1998 and ruled Ogbomoso North LG between 29th May 1999 to 29th May 2002.
Otunba Alao-Akala served as Deputy Governor to Alhaji Rashidi Ladoja between 29th May 2003 to January 2006.
Upon the impeachment of Rashidi Ladoja, Otunba Alao-Akala served as governor of Oyo State between January to December 2006, when the Supreme Court overturned the Impeachment and reinstated Governor Rashid Ladoja to complete his tenure on May 29th 2007.
