Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has announced a wage increase for workers in the state. Effective from October, workers will receive a wage award of N25,000, while pensioners will be granted N15,000.
This announcement came during a solidarity rally held at the State Secretariat, Governor’s Office in Ibadan, where Governor Makinde reaffirmed his commitment to improving workers’ welfare. The decision follows the inauguration of an 11-member ad-hoc inter-ministerial committee, tasked with addressing the demands of labor unions in the state.
Governor Makinde emphasized the need for the committee to find locally derived solutions to workers’ welfare concerns. He specifically directed the committee, led by Prof Olanike Adeyemo, the Secretary to the State Government, to prepare a report outlining the implementation modalities for the workers’ demands.
The wage increase is set to be sustained for the next six months, providing much-needed relief to workers and retirees in Oyo State.
