The Oyo State Government has urged residents to remain vigilant and adopt precautionary measures to prevent a potential cholera outbreak in the state.
During a visit to a private hospital in Ibadan, where two suspected cholera cases were receiving treatment, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, emphasized the importance of public awareness and preventive actions.

“Cholera is a bacterial infection spread by consuming food or water contaminated by the feces of an infected person,” Dr. Ajetunmobi explained. “It is highly infectious and can cause severe acute watery diarrhea, leading to severe dehydration.”
The Commissioner revealed that the two suspected cases in Ibadan involved male workers at a construction site in the Lekki Peninsula, Lagos State. She reassured the public that the State Government, through the Ministry of Health, is actively responding to prevent any casualties.
Dr. Ajetunmobi called for calm and highlighted the measures being taken to address the situation. She urged residents to ensure they drink water from clean sources and practice good personal hygiene, including frequent handwashing with soap and water.
“It is crucial that anyone experiencing symptoms of cholera avoids self-medication and seeks immediate medical attention at the nearest healthcare facility,” she added.
The Commissioner reiterated the state’s commitment to safeguarding public health and encouraged all residents to cooperate in preventing the spread of cholera.
For further information and updates, residents are advised to follow official health advisories from the Oyo State Ministry of Health.
