A fatal shooting linked to cult violence has left the city of Ibadan on high alert. The incident occurred in the Iwo Road area, where one person was killed in broad daylight, sending shockwaves through the community.
Eyewitnesses reported that the assailant emerged from a cab, locally known as a “micra,” and shot a man dead in front of a phone accessories shop named Omoleye. The victim, identified as Kanu, was reportedly a leader of a local cult group. The shooting is believed to be part of an ongoing rivalry between cult factions, particularly involving the Axe Confraternity, known for its violent activities and significant dates like July 7th.
“It was a shocking and terrifying sight. The man was just gunned down in broad daylight. We’re all on edge, wondering if this will spark further violence,” a local resident recounted. The incident has raised fears of potential retaliation, with the community bracing for a possible cycle of violence.
Community leaders have called for immediate police intervention to prevent further bloodshed. “The city is on high alert. We’re all worried that this could be the start of a series of attacks between rival cult groups. The police need to take immediate action to restore calm and prevent further bloodshed,” a community leader emphasized.
The Oyo State Police Command has launched an investigation into the shooting and assured the public that steps are being taken to maintain law and order. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
