The Acting Governor of Oyo State, Bayo Lawal, on Tuesday, called on the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission to collaborate with the state anti-corruption agency to combat corruption and malpractices in the country.
He made this call while hosting the commission, led by its Chairman, Musa Aliyu, at the Governor’s Office, Agodi, in Ibadan, the state capital.
The officials were on a condolence visit to Ibadan following the death of the late Emmanuel Ayoola, the former Chairman of the ICPC, who passed away the previous Tuesday at the age of 90.
The Chairman said, “The ICPC and OYACA are institutions established to combat corruption and malpractices in society. I believe that progress is being made, especially with those in government establishments.
“So, as a government, we are ready to collaborate with your commission and assist in any way deemed appropriate to fight against corruption and malpractices.”
He noted that the late Ayoola made a significant contribution to human rights in the country and that his tireless efforts had contributed to the current reputation of the ICPC.
“We extend our condolences to the people of Oyo State Government over this sad loss and pray that God grants the late Chairman eternal rest.
“ICPC will not forget his good deeds but will continue to ensure that the ICPC he left behind upholds his legacy,” Lawal added.
Earlier, ICPC Chairman Aliyu, who also described the late Ayoola as one of the best legal practitioners the country has ever had, pledged that the commission would continue to build on his legacy and ensure that its image is always protected.
A letter of condolence was later presented to the state government during the visit.
Ayoola, a retired Justice of the Supreme Court, was Chairman of the ICPC from 2005 to 2010.
