In celebration of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day, Comrade Olalere Benedict Adetunji, former National President of the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) and a staunch advocate of Nigerian youth, has launched a new initiative tagged Patriotism Now Movement (PNM). The movement is designed to rally Nigerian youth towards a united effort in building a stronger and more prosperous nation.
Comrade Olalere, in his statement, highlighted the critical need for patriotism amidst the current hardships, insecurity, and disillusionment felt by many citizens. He emphasized that despite the political and economic challenges, it is time for Nigerian youth to rise to the task of reshaping the future of the country.

“Even if you travel abroad, the best you can become is a second-class citizen. Nigeria is our country. We need to wake up from our sleep and make things work. Youth must design strategies that will move the country forward,” he stated.
The Patriotism Now Movement seeks to rekindle national pride and mobilize youth across Nigeria’s 36 states and the FCT. The group aims to campaign against vote buying and selling, promote mass voter registration, and encourage free, fair, and transparent elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Comrade Olalere further announced that the movement will host a National Youth Conference in 2024, aimed at addressing Nigeria’s issues and empowering youth with the tools to lead change.
“It is unpatriotic to compare Nigeria unfavorably with other nations. We must remember that it is only Nigerians who can make Nigeria great again. This will not be achieved through violence, but through collective effort, strategy, and patriotism,” he added, citing Senegal as an example of a nation that has achieved success through non-violent means.
The Patriotism Now Movement is poised to be a driving force for youth empowerment and national development as it urges Nigerian youth to take ownership of the country’s future, stating that together, they can bring about a renewed and prosperous Nigeria.
Comrade Olalere concluded by encouraging all Nigerian youth to join the movement and take an active role in reshaping the nation’s destiny.
“Happy Independence Day, and welcome to October. It’s time to reawaken the mindset of Nigerian youth towards the greatness of our dear country. Together, we can make Nigeria great again.”
