In a move to enhance educational infrastructure and address security concerns, Hon. Makanjuola SMATO, the member representing Ogooluwa/Surulere Federal Constituency, has called for the construction of a Police Secondary School in Odanbon, Surulere Local Government Area of Oyo State. The lawmaker moved the motion on Thursday during a House of Representatives session, marking his second motion on the House floor.
Hon. Makanjuola, who chairs the House Committee on Friendship Group to Pakistan and serves as the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Solid Minerals, highlighted the historical significance of the project. The secondary school was initially proposed in 2014 by the late Inspector General of Police, Chief Sunday Adewusi, who allocated nearly forty acres of land for its construction. However, the site, although fenced, has remained undeveloped for almost a decade.
The lack of progress on the project has resulted in the land becoming a haven for wildlife, posing potential security risks to nearby residents. According to Hon. Makanjuola, the establishment of the school would not only address these concerns but also provide numerous social, educational, and economic benefits to the community and the nation at large.
“The construction of the Police Secondary School in Odanbon will enhance the educational development of students across the country,” the lawmaker stated during his presentation. He emphasized that the school, once completed, would significantly boost the educational opportunities available in the area and contribute to community development.
In his motion, Hon. Makanjuola urged the House to mandate the Committee on Police Affairs to include the project in the 2025 budgetary allocation. He also called for the Committee on Legislative Compliance to ensure that the motion is adhered to, stressing the importance of timely action.
The proposal reflects Hon. Makanjuola’s continued commitment to advancing his constituency’s development, with a focus on improving education and addressing security concerns.
