Some youths from the Ibarapa geo-political zone of Oyo State on Monday stormed the state secretariat to demand the release of three members of the Odua Peoples Congress (OPC).
Akéde Ọ̀yọ́ had reported that three OPC members were arrested two weeks ago.
The three OPC members were said to have been remanded in a correctional facility.
Some concerned youths in the state are, however, demanding the release of the OPC members.
The spokesman of the youths, Mr. Oladokun Oladiran, said the youths in the state took it upon themselves to demand the unconditional release of the men.
Oladiran who is also the Convener of Iganga Development Advocate, also called for an end to open grazing in the state.
He added that the root of the killings and kidnappings in Ibarapa geo-political zone is the occupation of the land by the violent Fulani herdsmen.
He said, “We are asking the state to throw all its weight behind the call to release the 3 OPC members by state pardon.
“The release of the OPC members will serve as a clear message that will encourage youths not to be involved in criminality.
“The root of the problem is the occupation of our land by Fulani herders who are violent. They chase away farmers, if they resist them, they attack them.
“We want the government to announce that henceforth, any cattle seen roaming around the street should be shot.”
Oladokun also called for the inclusion of local security apparatus in the zone to work in conjunction with the Amotekun corps.
“We are also demanding that the security architecture of Ibarapa geo-political zone be allowed to work with Amotekum corps.”
