Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has called for the restoration of the state’s traditional council of Obas and Chiefs to strengthen and advance the traditional institution in Oyo. The Governor made this call shortly before presenting the proposed 2025 budget.
Governor Makinde emphasized the importance of unity within the council, urging the traditional rulers to put aside individual differences for the collective progress of the state. He noted that disunity among Oyo’s traditional rulers has hindered the growth and effectiveness of the traditional institution, underlining the need for collaboration to promote the state’s development.

In his remarks, Governor Makinde also stressed the importance of proper protocol and respect for the monarchy, directing the Oyo State Assembly to ensure that due protocol is consistently upheld. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring a functional and cohesive traditional council, first instituted in 2011, to enhance Oyo State’s standing as the “Pacesetter State.”
