In a meeting held yesterday at Atiba Local Government Council, the Executive Chairman Hon. kafilat Olakojo welcomed the league of Imams, assured the Muslim community in the council area of her continued support for the Muslim faithfuls and respect for religious differences among all citizens and residents of Atiba.
In attendance were Imams and Alfas, from Atiba Local Government, the LCDA administrator, the political functionaries Political Leaders, community leaders, staff and management of the council.
Having committed the meeting into the hand of Almighty God by Alhaji Akinola Sulaimon Ajepe with an opening prayer, the opening remark was made by one of the foremost leaders, Alhaji Olatunji Quadri Arowolo, who established that religious leaders are part of the community stakeholders whose actions influence the decision of numerous people, hence they are expected to maintain a clear position that embrace peace and unity at this political period.
Imam Saani from Oridota while making his remarks thanked the leadership of the council for counting it worthy of inviting Islamic leaders to be part of the discussion and encouraged the government of the state to include more Muslims in his cabinet after the election, furthermore he also appreciated the leadership of Engr. Seyi Makinde for his numerous capital projects in Oyo town despite being a Christian the governor has demonstrated high level of equity and fairness among all divides of religion.
Hon. Kafilat Olakojo during her address, expressed that, a community like ours can only thrive best when we appreciate our religious differences to live in harmony and peace.
She further expressed that, “the government of Engr. Seyi Makinde has ever been fair to all religions faithfuls with regards to the selection of the government cabinet, and other benefits that goes to respective quarters among our Islamic leaders, Imams and alfas”.
The chief Imam of Atiba, Alhaji Adebayo Rasheed Matanmi in his statements acknowledged the unprecedented achievements of the Executive Governor in the areas of Free Education, Health, Infrastructure, prompt payment of staff salaries and other benefits that the government has been providing which in comparison with the past administration was a good gesture, he also pledged his support for the Executive Governor and the house of assembly candidate, Honourable Oluwagbenga Oyekola, so that the good work can continue in the grassroots as well.
Alhaji Muftau Oloyin, who is the Chief of Markaz Agunpopo also advised the religious leaders to be guided in their utterances during sermons to avoid statements capable of causing societal unrest and religious clashes. He offered prayers for the success of the coming election and wished the community well.
The Seriki Hausa of Oyo town Alhaji Galli Ibrahim (Oba Saabo), in his final remark encouraged all to put aside all forms of personal interests and religious differences and vote for the best candidate of the moment.
