The Oyo State Assembly Service Commission has expressed its heartfelt condolences to Governor Seyi Makinde and his family over the loss of the governor’s elder brother, Engr. Sunday Makinde, who passed away on Friday, January 24, 2025.
In a statement issued on Saturday, by the Chairman Hon. Femi Julius, the Commission described the passing of Engr. Sunday Makinde as a great loss to the Makinde family and the entire state. The Commission commended the late elder statesman for his humility and the positive impact he made during his lifetime.
“The Oyo State Assembly Service Commission deeply sympathizes with His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, and the entire Makinde family on the painful loss of their beloved brother, Engr. Sunday Makinde. His sudden demise is indeed a great loss, not just to the family but to everyone who was touched by his kindness and integrity.
“We pray that Almighty God grants the family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss and grants the soul of the departed eternal rest,” the statement read.
Engr. Sunday Makinde, aged 65, passed away at his residence in Ibadan in the early hours of Friday. His passing was announced by Chief Olumuyiwa Makinde, the Bada Olubadan of Ibadanland and Head of the Aigbofa Family of Oja’ba, who described the loss as sudden and deeply painful.
Engr. Makinde is survived by his siblings, including Governor Seyi Makinde, children, and grandchildren. His death has left a significant void, with tributes pouring in from across the state to honor his life and legacy.
