The thug of war as regards leadership of the 10th National Assembly rages on as more lawmakers show their disagreement with the adoption of candidates by the All Progressives Congress (APC), obviously influenced by power players around the President-Elect.
The National Assembly, especially the House of Representatives has continued to witness rancor since the announcement made by the party adopting Hon. Tajudeen Abbas and Hon. Benjamin Kalu as Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively.
Making their stance known, other aspirants have since coalesced and submitted a letter communicating their displeasure to the National Chairman of the party, Senator Abdulahi Adamu, and the entire National Working Committee, while also going ahead to individually declare their ambitions publicly.
Many identify Hon. Tajudeen Abbas adoption to lead the 10th Assembly of the House of Representatives as an initiative of Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila and Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who both reportedly seek to be in firm control of the green chamber in the coming administration for personal interests.
Political observers across the country keep wondering If this move is in the interest of the success the incoming President looks forward to achieve in office. This is considering the undemocratic and gestapo style in which Hon. Tajudeen’s speakership nomination was adopted, without recourse to consultations and buy-in of majority reps-elect with whom they will jointly serve the interest of Nigerians in the 10th Assembly.
Progressives for Change Group believes that a legislature that allows itself to be pocketed by two people won’t function optimally, and won’t contribute positively to the success of the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration, as the House will become a tool to serve the interests of Speaker Gbajabiamila and Governor El-Rufai only.
