The Commandant of the South Western Security Network, codenamed Operation Amotekun, Col. Olayinka Olayanju (retd) on Tuesday said men of the corps have arrested five armed robbers including a student of the University of Ibadan, Adewale Akinlosotun, and recovered locally made gun and charms from them.
Olayanju added that the arrested suspect shot and injured an Amotekun Corps adding that the arrested robbers have been handed over to the police for investigation.
Olayanju stated this in a statement made available to newsmen.
The statement reads; “Idowu Taofik and Yekin Awal who were caught with the firearm have been taken to the General Hospital, Oyo, while Tiamiyu Biodun (M), 20, Yoruba and Saka Rokeeb(M), 18, Yoruba have been handed over to the Police at the Durbar Police Station. The recovered firearm has also been deposited at the Durbar Police Station.
“We received another distress call the people of Bara Area, that some hoodlums were disturbing the peace of the Area, the four Local Governments in the zone proceeded to the area,at about 14:30 hrs, on the way through Oke Apo Area, some hoodlums just started shooting at the Amotekun vans, one Amotekun Personnel, (Amo Sangodeyi John) was hit with a bullet in the stomach. It is pertinent to note that, at this same spot at Oke-Apo, these same hoodlums shot at Amotekun Vans on the 16/12/20, when the Amotekun Corps,Oyo Zone was on the Operation Show of Force Movement round all the town. The Oyo East Local Government Chairman was part of the convoy then.
“A locally made gun, which was used to shoot at the Amotekun Corps was recovered from one Idowu Taofik (M), 29, of Oke Apo , Area. Yekeen ,Awal (M) 22, of Akoda compound Oke Apo too tried to take the gun from Idowu.
“This are the robbers we arrested along Oyo Ibadan express way, at aba odo in akinyele local government Ibadan. Their names are Adewale Akinlosotun (31 year old ) student of university of Ibadan. and Nasir Idris ( Hausa man. (21 year old) thats the items they looted from the house where they stole it.”
