The unprofessional conduct of Amotekun operatives in Oyo state is becoming too alarming that they’re now seen more as a security threat than of that who’s saddled with responsibility of securing lives and property.
Since Amotekun commenced operation in the state, there have beem several cases of civilian/Amotekun clash that had in one way or the other led to death of most times civilians.
Not less than ten persons have been reported dead or seriously injured in just less than two month of their operation, which seems to be a matter of serious concern to every well meaning person in oyo state.
Many persons have reported cases of assault/harassment by these men at some point even when they appear unarmed, we’ll protested against police brutality on to get brutalised by amotekun corps?
These men have little or no training about rules of engagement, handling of firearms and proper criminal investigation and interrogation process, there need to be a difference between and organised state funded security outfit and community vigilante, the professionalism has to be there.
The allegation of extra-judicial killing of a UI student still unsolved, another police was mistakenly shot at owode, the case of attack in Ibadan and the fresh case of attack at Tapa that claimed three civilian’s lives has gone a long way to project this outfit as an unserious, untrained and unprofessional set of people, armed just to intimidate the public.
The government needs to make provision for proper training of the officers in order for them to achieve their purpose, moreso, there are need to be a clear definition of roles so they don’t trespass, Amotekun are not police officers and there should be limit to their operation, they’re not in position to complain about my hairstyle or my look, they were recruited to combat bandits, herdsmen and hoodlums terrorising and disturbing the peace if the state, not to start killing armless civilian.
