The management of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Oyo State, has lifted the suspension order earlier slammed on the Students’ Union Government of the institution.
A statement by the Registrar, Modupe Fawale, said the reversal of the decision was based on interventions to allow for further consultations.
The Different Online Newspaper had earlier reported that the students protested the hike in hostel refusal fee by the management.
The students, in their hundreds, blocked the school gate and the ever-busy Sango-Poly junction, thereby causing gridlock before heading to the State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan. All the roads within the Secretariat were also blocked.
However, the management said it had decided not to use the big stick on the students as they had also sheathed their sword.
“The management will be holding meetings with the leadership of the students to address their perceived grievances.
“The first semester examinations scheduled to commence today (Monday) however remain postponed. A new date for the commencement of the examination will be announced to the students through appropriate channels,” the statement added.
