In a solemn ceremony marking the beginning of his seclusion rites, Prince Sefiu Olawale Oyebola, Adeyeri 111, the newly appointed Aseyin of Iseyin, has embarked on a journey of introspection and enlightenment prior to his official installation on Thursday. However, the High Priest of the town, High Chief Ifasoji Adeyemi, has firmly declared a ban on filming and photography during this sacred process.
Respecting the age-old customs and traditions of Iseyin, the High Priest emphasized that documenting the seclusion rites of the Aseyin-designate in any form is strictly forbidden. Ensuring that all necessary traditional rituals for appeasement and prayers have been completed, the seclusion period will now focus on providing the Aseyin with a profound understanding of his ancestral history as well as the heritage of each ancient household. This intensive period is expected to span seven days, encompassing various locations.
High Chief Adeyemi asserted, “Tonight, we are venturing into the Igbo Oba to commence the rites, traveling from Aaba Itan groove to Aaba Odo Iseyin, and finally reaching Igbo Imokin for the continuation of the process over the next seven days.” He underscored the significance of adhering to the sanctity of the traditional rites, stating that filming or taking photographs at these sacred grooves would be tantamount to sacrilege.
