In a recent development, the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, has handed down convictions and jail terms to 20 individuals involved in internet fraud. Justices Ladiran Akintola and Kamorudeen Olawoyin presided over the case, which concluded with the defendants pleading guilty to one-count separate charges of impersonation and obtaining money by false pretense.
The convicted individuals are Olanipekun Gbolahan, Shedrack Victor, Victor Kadri, Idris Gbolahan, Olaiya Samuel, Aparimo Ojoola, Kasimawo Ayomide, Akintaro Oluwabamise, Oladokun Adekola, Hamed Olanrewaju, and Rofeek Ayoade. Others include Olayiwola Olanrewaju, Olusegun-Ola Casmir, Samson Rotimi, Enoch Omotoso, Omodele Idowu, Ayinde Olamide, John Daniel, Akinkuade Folarin, and Olanese Michael.
The court has handed down various sentences, with some receiving one year of imprisonment each, while others have been sentenced to six months of community service. Additionally, the convicted individuals have been ordered to restitute their victims and forfeit all items recovered from them to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
