Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has been working remotely from Ibadan, Oyo State, instead of the capital Akure, due to accommodation challenges, according to his Special Adviser on Special Duty and Strategy, Doyin Odebowale.
In an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Odebowale explained that Akeredolu’s current health condition requires a more suitable residence.
The governor had previously stayed at the Presidential Lodge, which is now a two-bedroom apartment, and the Governor’s Lodge is now the office of the investment outlet. Odebowale emphasized that the governor needs the necessary facilities to recover properly, and a new place for him is almost completed.
The governor’s absence from the state since his return from a medical vacation abroad has sparked controversy, with the youth wing of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State protesting against it.
Odebowale addressed critics, stating that the governor has been carrying out his duties, signing laws, and ensuring civil servants are paid. He also questioned the intentions of the PDP youths protesting and emphasized the need for peace and security in the state.
Odebowale reiterated that Akeredolu is in charge and recuperating, and that the governor was visited by the APC leadership from Abuja. He dismissed claims that there is gloom and nothing is working, stating that the governor’s health condition necessitates the completion of a suitable residence for his recovery.
