Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yayaha Bello, has taken action against eight out of the nine Local Government Chairmen in the Eastern Senatorial District of the state following their failure to secure victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in any local government during the recent Governorship election.
Arewa PUNCH reports that the chairmen, who represent Omala, Ofu, Dekina, Ankpa, Olamaboro, Ibaji, Igalame/Odolu, and Idah local government areas, have been queried by the Governor.
During a stakeholders’ meeting with members of the party, Governor Bello expressed his disappointment with the chairmen for not meeting expectations, despite being provided with transportation and logistics to mobilize support for the party.
The Governor also expressed concern over allegations that the chairmen had collected money from the Minister of Steel Development, Prince Shuaib Abubarkar Audu, without utilizing it for its intended purpose.
As a result, the chairmen have been asked to explain the poor performance of the APC in their respective council areas.
The Governor plans to send them a questionnaire to gather their responses, with a mandatory submission deadline of Tuesday noon.
Although the tenure of the chairmen officially ends on December 12, 2023, there are talks of their potential removal from office before that date, along with the possibility of being required to refund the mobilization funds they received prior to the election.
