In a bid to resolve the legal disputes surrounding the enthronement of Oba Ghadi Olaoye, Orumogege III, as the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has called for the withdrawal of all pending court cases. The issue arose when Prince Kabir Olaoye, a contestant to the throne, filed a lawsuit challenging Oba Olaoye’s emergence and the process that led to his ascension.
Justice Kareem Adeyimika Adedokun, the presiding judge, has issued an order, directing all parties involved to maintain the status quo until the appeal filed by Oba Olaoye’s defense and the state government is heard and determined.
During the presentation of the Instrument of Office and Staff of Office at the Ogbomoso township stadium, Governor Makinde emphasized the need to put an end to the litigation. He expressed hope that the cases would be withdrawn from various courts by the end of next week. However, if the litigants fail to comply, the governor stated that he would not hesitate to use his authority to address the matter. He emphasized the importance of avoiding a situation like the one in another community where a suit lasted for 20 years, resulting in the removal of a king from the throne. He prayed that such a scenario would not occur in Ogbomosoland.
Oba Olaoye, in his acceptance speech, highlighted his vision for a prosperous and peaceful Ogbomosoland. He revealed plans for a detailed 25-year plan to be unveiled in the coming months. The monarch expressed his commitment to serve the people, regardless of religion, gender, or other differences. He called on other contestants to join forces in advancing the ancient town.
The coronation ceremony was attended by dignitaries including Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja III, the Ooni of Ife, Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri, Oba Lekan Balogun, Okunmade III, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, former Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, former Minister of Information Lai Muhammed, and other prominent Nigerians.
The event concluded a series of activities held for the coronation, which began with a 150 million Naira empowerment program last Thursday.
