Various gangs of tout that have been terrorising Ibadan for sometimes now have agreed to maintain relative peace after appeal from family heads (mogaji) and The Commandant of The Amotekun Operation in Oyo State.
The governor of the state, Engr. Seyi Makinde had earlier last week set up a mediating committee between the security agencies of the state and various waring gangs that affecting the state of security in the state.
The committee which include security agencies and the family heads in Ibadan North East and Ibadan South East local governments to mediate between the government and the hoodlums.
Gang leaders in Ibadan North East local government such az Dada Oto fondly called parkaging; S O J, 350 boys. Also in Ibadan South East Kabiru Ojuyobo, Baba Ele, 420 boys, Alhaja Sakiratu Tinko, and iya gbogbo Awon boys were all appealed to sue for peace.
These gangs have been wrecking havoc in various area such as; Odo osun, Labiran beere, Esu Awele, Ileba, Oja Oba, Alagolo, Lion base, Omiyale, Kobomoje, Ita ege, Eleta, Agbongbon, Tewogbade, Arapaja, Isale Ijebu, Sogoye, Akobi, Popo, Asuni, and Bonfoto.
The convener of the event and the leader of the Mogajis, Chief Wale Oladoja described the move as a right steps in a right direction.
He said as the family head, he knows his subjects and there is need to talk to them in a language they understand, hence there is indication that peace will return to some hotspots in Ibadan land soon.
He said; “following some development in certain areas in Ibadan, the governor has been deploying all possible means to fight insecurity. He therefore ask us talk to some of them to cease fire. As you can see, it is a success. We fine and wine with them and they have promised to cease fire and they have sent us to the governor. We promised to get back to them.”
The State commandant of Amotekun in the state, Col. Olayinka Olayanju (retd) in his remarks said the corps adopted dialogue to ensure the hoodlums are rehabilitated.
