Hours after the rumors of a former Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and a Governorship aspirant, Chief Olasunkanmi Joseph Tegbe, broke out of his Defection to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) both the camps of the opposition party The All Progressive Congress (APC) and the camp of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has been actively tensed.
Reports in the early hours of today has it that, Like a typical Ibadan man, Tegbe will move from Ibadan South East in Oyo South to his village in Ona-Ara local government in Oyo central senatorial district to contest as part of the negotiation for dumping APC, Which means the former Chief of Staff to Governor Makinde, Chief Bisi ILAKA who is has been ratified by the committee set up by Gov Makinde and led by Former Oyo State Deputy Governor Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja will be outsted.
Akéde Ọ̀yọ́ gathered that Source close to those who made the transfer possible after months of intensed pressure, proposed the idea of the oyo central senatorial ticket to the Governor for approval, the deal was left open by governor Makinde last night, adding that the negotiation continues today.
But in a quick political game to test the popularity and acceptability of Chief Joseph Tegbe into the Party, the News was hurriedly let out, our source said.
Confirming to Akéde Ọ̀yọ́, the source said the Governor ask his negotiators the local government area he claimed during 2019 election and the reply was Ibadan South East, he then ask why not Oyo South?
Akéde Ọ̀yọ́ recall that Oyo South Senatorial District is the Only district yet to agree on consensus, With the current SUBEB Chairman Nureni Adeniran charllenging the incumbent Sen Kola Balogun, who is the younger brother of the olubadan of Ibadan land, Oyo North leaders settled for Hon. Akinwale and leaders from Oyo central settle for Chief Bisi ILAKA respectively, Governor Makinde was quoted to have advise the aspirant including the incumbent to reach consensus as Primaries may gulp them up to 100milion Naira.
Monsurat Sunmonu, who is said to be Tegbe’s ‘big sister’ while growing up in Oyo town where the latter’s father owned a bookshop, who was at the centre of the deal wanted the ticket for Oyo central for Chief Joseph Tegbe our Source confirm to us.
Adding that, few leaders where consulted to give their review on Chief Tegbe and Chief ILAKA, they both said any last minute dich of the former chief of staff would be a disastrous game to play after sacking him earlier and asking him to concentrate his energy on how to harmonize the party in his senatorial district, ILAKA has moved round, he was able to bring everyone to the table, a testament of why he won the consensus vote from all the 11 local government areas making Oyo Central.
“He was unanimously pick by all, because they believe he will consolidate the government of Gov. Seyi Makinde, it will be politics taken too far for a man who has contested 3 times, he lost an election and was appointed the Chief of Staff because of his contribution, when he was sacked, he remain loyal, he never for once went against the Governor’s Camp,” I guess it’s all a game to test his resilience our source added.
Another Source who don’t want his name on print, said i can tell you that tegbe will contest the Oyo South Senatorial ticket, Governor makinde that i know will never yield to such political gimmicks, it’s normal they played such card, Makinde has just netted a big fish in Joseph Tegbe, his biggest in close to three years in office, Tegbe is from Ibadan South East which is Oyo South Senatorial District, Why was it that Oyo South Senatorial District is the only district yet to reach consensus? Governor Makinde needed a popular candidate in which he has found, the incumbent was given the ticket last term, he may not be favoured going to primaries, The SUBEB Chairman isn’t that rooted politically, Tegbe run a campaign of 4 months campaign and he was almost at the lips of every oyo residents, don’t be surprised if the ticket for Oyo south is conceded to him.
Akéde Ọ̀yọ́ Contacted the Personal assistant to Chief Bisi ILAKA, Prince Falana Adebayo Adebowale to inquire about the news making the rounds that his Boss has been edge out of the race, he said ” It means my Boss is a force to reckon with in this game, whatever you hear is politics, we’ve been busy carrying out strategies to ensure that we win all 11 local government under Oyo central Senatorial District, we are not borderd about rumors, all i can tell you right now is ANFANI FOR ALL he concluded.
Akéde Ọ̀yọ́ Contacted Another PDP Chieftain who is believed to be very close to power, Said, yeah it’s a good development that someone like Tegbe is joining us, when ask if Tegbe will contest any Election come 2023 he said yes, it’s part of the negotiation, but i can assure you that “Chief Olasunkanmi Joseph Tegbe who is yet to officially announce his intention, will contest the Oyo south Senatorial ticket.
Sen Kola Balogun who was earlier presume to be Governor Makinde’s Preferred candidate now has a mountain to climb said another Source, the ticket was given to him after Chief Sharafadeen Ali refused it, he got it at the plater of gold all thanks to the rejection of former late governor Sen Abiola Ajimobi by the Ibadan people, I don’t think he will want to contest that, he may likely loose it to a more popular candidate.
