Properties worth millions of naira were lost as fire razed the recreation building of the Retired Army Navy and Air Force Officers’ (RANAO) Association office at Agodi, Ibadan, on Monday.
The inferno which started in the afternoon emanated from a plot that shares boundary with the official residence of the Oyo deputy governor.
Speaking on the incident, Chairman, RANAO, Colonel Adebayo Ajayi (rtd) said some workers on the plot of land had set fire on debris on the land and this spread to its premises as well as torched some tall trees of the deputy governor’s residence.
Ajayi lamented that the fire completely razed its building, named Admiralty Tavern, inaugurated only last August.
He added that the building was where retired officers converged to socialise and housed various items like ceiling fans, standing fans, freezers, solar lights, tables, chairs, television sets among others.
It took the intervention of men of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency to prevent the fire from spreading to other buildings and environs.
