Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has graciously accepted the public apology made by his deputy, Comrade Philip Shaibu. Governor Obaseki, as a person of faith, believes in the power of forgiveness and feels obligated to accept the apology.
In a letter titled “Re: Public Apology By The Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu,” Governor Obaseki expressed his faith in the genuineness of Shaibu’s apology. He hopes that this apology is followed by sincere efforts to improve his conflict resolution skills.
The governor’s letter acknowledges the unnecessary actions taken by the deputy governor, such as filing unfounded petitions in Nigerian courts and engaging in unwarranted attacks in the media. These actions created a false impression of crisis, which was distressing to the people of Edo State.
Despite the personal discomfort caused by these provocations, Governor Obaseki, guided by his faith, has decided to accept the apology. He believes that to err is human, and to forgive is divine.
Governor Obaseki also urges Deputy Governor Shaibu to ensure that his proxies act in accordance with his newfound contrition. He hopes that this apology marks the end of such rhetoric, allowing the administration to focus on delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Edo State in the remaining twelve months.
According to reports, Shaibu sought forgiveness from Governor Obaseki for any unintentional mistakes he may have made while carrying out his responsibilities.
