In a crucial turn of events, Organized Labour leaders are currently engaged in emergency discussions with the Federal Government to address the impending nationwide indefinite strike set to commence tomorrow, October 3.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have converged at the Presidential Villa to convey their final decision on the proposed industrial action to the government, following a series of meetings and resolutions.
With tensions running high, the TUC President, Tommy Etim, emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “We just concluded our meeting a few hours ago and we received some recommendations from our members, which we will convey to the government later today.”
These talks come in the wake of the Federal Government’s recent announcements regarding wage increment, the removal of Value Added Tax, and the facilitation of the Compressed Natural Gas initiative, all as a result of discussions held with the NLC and TUC.
It is worth noting that Organized Labour had previously declared their intention to embark on an indefinite strike starting on Tuesday, October 3, citing fuel subsidy-related challenges.
