A leading aspirants for the People’s Democratic Party ticket for Ibadan North federal constituency , Hon. Lanre Sarumi yesterday through the Lanre Sarumi Foundation, donated a block of toilet to the Faculty of Environmental Studies Students Association (FESA) of the Polytechnic, Ibadan.
The groundbreaking and Foundation Laying event was graced by The Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Proff. Kazeem A. Adebiyi, The dean Faculty of Environmental Studies ESV. O.T Elegbede, QS. Adeboye A.A, Head of Department, Quantity Surveying Department, Mr. Olufowobi F.O, Head of Department, Arts and Design Department, as well as officers of the students union government led by the president, Com. Afeez Adedeji, Com. Caleb Okonkwo (SUG Soc. Director) Com. Lateef Oladimeii Roqeeb (Gen. Sec.) Adebisi Abiola Oluranti (Fin. Sec.) as well as the host president, Com. Glory (FESSA President) and her members of excos, also the Departmental presidents present are, Comr. Hillary Hope Remy (Estate management and valuation departmental president.) and Comr. Salako sodiq Alani (Art and design departmental president).
In his welcome Adress, The Rector, commends the Founder of Lanre Sarumi Foundation for his thoughtfulness to cite such helpful project within the premises of the Institution, in his words, he Said ” Education is not alone for government to fund, individuals and organisations need to take it upon themselves to fund education in Nigeria to achieve the desired result”.
Also the Dean, Faculty of Environmental Studies, ESV. O.T Elegbede also appreciate Hon. Lanre Sarumi for coming to their aid in providing convenience for the students, according to her, “the faculty has really been in need of a good convenience facility for a long time due to the fact that most of their students do stay in class beyond regular school hours to use the studios and do their works, but most times they’ll need to go home to ease themselves and come back to school which is always inconvenient for them, but Hon. Sarumi’s intervention would help the Students enjoy their time more in class and concentrate more on their works”, she equally appreciate the rector for honoring the invitation for the event and other members of staffs present.
Com. Glory, The FESSA President while speaking narrated the challenges the students of the faculty had been facing overtime regarding convenience, she said “Most times we’ll have to go deep into the bush to ease ourselves, being an environmentalist, most of our courses are technical and we spend more of our nights in the studios and classes, but it’s always dangerous for us to go into the bush at odd hours, in fact we’ve had some issues of sexual harassment by some male students who tried to accompany our female students to the bush to ease themselves, so I made a resolution to myself when I emerged to make sure I find a solution to this problem”
“Sincerely, Hon. Lanre might not know how much this means to us, but we are very grateful for his kindness, we only approached him for financial assistance and he offered to do the entire project, we’re so grateful”.
She also appreciate the Dean of the faculty, her members of excos and the whole the nine departmental presidents that makes up the faculty association, for the support through the whole process, it was a collective success , not her lone success.
The Students Union President, Com. Adedeji also appreciate the donor, Hon. Lanre Sarumi for coming to their aid in providing a convenience facility for the students, he equally used the opportunity to call on well meaning individuals and Corporate bodies who are willing to extend their hand of generosity to the students to always feel free as the institutions doors are always open to them.
Hon. Lanre Sarumi While Speaking appreciate the Rector of the institution, Proff. Kazeem Adebiyi, the Dean Of FESSA, ESV. Elegbede and other staffs present for find a time to attend the event despite their tight schedule, he equally appreciate them for training leaders like Com. Glory, who are service oriented, he said “Glory really tried to make this a success, Yes, I promised to help them build the toilet, but she did a great job reminding and contacting me at every intervals so that I wouldn’t forget, she really tried, in fact, many would have just demand for the money and spend it, but she was committed to making this project a reality and we’re glad today, we’re laying the foundation and by God’s grace it would be completed in a short while”
He said further that he’s more committed to solving problems than complaining about them, according to him, it is one of the great attributes of Engr. Seyi Makinde and as a loyalist, he has learnt these values from the governor and he hold on to it firmly.
While reacting to questions regarding the forthcoming primaries of People’s Democratic Party and how he looks at the contest, he said he’s confident that the leadership of the party in the constituency have had enough time to study the candidates and know who has the capacity to deliver at the polls and as well bring good governance to the people, so the study would form basis for their judgement during the primary and he’s sure no one has exhibited anything close to what he has exhibited in capacity and personality in this struggle.
The event was also attended by all the ward coordinators for Lanre Sarumi led by the general coordinator of Lanre Sarumi for Rep, Mr. Olaniyan T. Alphonso. Councillors there present includes, Hon. Sunday Somolu (Ward 11) Hon. Oluranti (Ward 8) Ward 11 Youth leader, Com. Bola and many other prominent members of PDP from Ibadan North.
