Joseph Aloba, the father of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has opened up about his complicated relationship with his ex-wife, who also happened to be Mohbad’s first stepmother. Aloba disclosed that his ex-wife once gave him an ultimatum to choose between her and Mohbad.
Aloba clarified the lyrics in Mohbad’s song, “Sorry,” shedding light on the personal circumstances behind them. He revealed that his ex-wife’s demand led to his decision to prioritize Mohbad, resulting in her leaving the family.
In an exclusive interview with Saturday PUNCH, Aloba shared, “The stepmother told me one day, ‘Choose me or your son.’ I chose my son (Mohbad) and she packed her loads and left. I and the lady were together for more than seven years. I married her around 2005. That stepmother did not want me to send Mohbad to school, and I chose my son. And she decided to leave.”
Mohbad tragically passed away at the age of 27 on September 12 and was laid to rest the following day. While the circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, the Lagos State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the case.
