In response to last night’s devastating explosion at Bodija Estate, the Oyo State Government has swiftly moved the homeless victims to Calton Gate and Palms 77 hotels in Ibadan, the state capital. The Deputy Governor, Barrister Bayo Lawal, visited the hotels and the scene of the explosion on Wednesday afternoon.
Additionally, the government has established an Emergency Situation Hub to effectively manage and support the affected victims. Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, announced that those impacted can seek assistance at the premises of the Housing Corporation in Bodija, Ibadan. Victims are urged to provide verifiable evidence of their losses and seek clarification on the government’s intervention.
Temporary accommodations have been arranged for the displaced individuals, and the state government will cover the hospital bills of the injured. Many victims have already registered at the hub and are receiving assistance from emergency and disaster experts.
As the investigation into the explosion continues, the government is focusing on the possible cause. New evidence suggests the involvement of illegal miners storing explosives in the area. Governor Seyi Makinde, during his visit to the scene, called on the residents of Oyo State to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities, emphasizing the importance of community awareness.
The explosion also affected structures belonging to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies at the State Secretariat. The impact of the explosion was felt up to 15 km away. It is worth noting that Governor Seyi Makinde previously deployed significant military resources to Oyo National Park to combat illegal mining and criminal activities.
