In a momentous event today, Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde, officially presented the Staff of Office to the 21st Soun of Ogbomoso, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Orumogege III.
The coronation and presentation of the Staff of Office took place at the Soun of Ogbomoso Township Stadium, Ogbomoso, marking a significant milestone in the history of Ogbomosoland.
After receiving the instrument and staff of Office from Governor Makinde, Oba Ghandi shared his gratitude to God and everyone who contributed to the realization of this day. In his heartfelt speech titled “My Dream and My Reality,” he acknowledged that accepting the throne is a divine call to serve the people of Ogbomosoland. Oba Ghandi appealed to all sons and daughters of Ogbomoso to join hands with him in leveraging the potential of the land.
Highlighting the unity of the people, he emphasized that the strength of Ogbomoso lies not only in the crown he wears, but also in the strong bond that unites every son and daughter, regardless of religion or gender.
Assuring his unwavering commitment to the development of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi pledged to engage and consult with all critical stakeholders, working towards the realization of his vision for his people.
Governor Makinde extended his congratulations to the king and expressed optimism that the reign of the new Soun would usher in greater development and prosperity for Ogbomosoland. He also expressed hope that the vast network of friends and associates of the new Soun would contribute to the development of the land.
Professor Yemi Osinbajo SAN, former vice president of Nigeria, conveyed his goodwill message, describing the new Soun as a close friend of many years. He praised Oba Ghandi for his passion, love for others, and his commitment to fairness, regardless of social status, religion, or ethnicity.
Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun state also sent his best wishes, urging all Ogbomoso sons and daughters to rally around the Soun of Ogbomoso for a peaceful and successful reign.
Several speakers commended Governor Makinde for his impartiality in the selection process of the new Soun of Ogbomoso, despite his authority to influence the decision.
Distinguished personalities present at the event included the immediate past Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, the Secretary to the Government of Nigeria (SGF) George Akume, and former military governor of Oyo state, General Oladayo Popoola (rtd.).
Among the royal fathers in attendance were HIM, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, Olu of Warri, Oba Ogiame Atuwatse, Oluwo of Iwo, Timi of Ede, Ewi of Ado, Orangun of Oke Ila, along with other prominent personalities.
