In a significant move to immortalize the memory of former Governor Abiola Ajimobi, the Oyo State government has unveiled plans to rename the First Technical University after the late statesman. This development was announced alongside the revelation that an executive bill is set to be presented to the state assembly for legislative consideration and approval.
The disclosure came from the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of Oyo State, Biodun Barrister Aikomo, during a press briefing on Wednesday, following the State Executive Council meeting at the Governor’s Office, Agodi Secretariat, Ibadan.
Aikomo outlined that the executive bill, upon endorsement by the state legislature, would legally solidify the renaming of the university as a fitting tribute to the former governor. The proposed bill aims to repeal and make amendments to the establishment law that originally brought the institution into existence, thereby providing a comprehensive legal foundation for the new nomenclature.
Furthermore, the executive bill, titled the “Oyo State Tertiary Institution Bill,” intends to pave the way for the establishment of the Oyo State Tertiary Institution Commission. This groundbreaking commission, the first of its kind in Nigeria, is designed to oversee all state-owned tertiary institutions within Oyo State.
