…Hails Makinde On Support Thus Far
The membership of the Joint National Association of persons with disabilities, Oyo State Chapter has requested the inclusion of their representative in the newly constituted Committee for the Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (SAfER).
The Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (SAfER) is meant to mitigate the effects of removal of fuel subsidies and the resultant economic difficulties on citizens of the state.
Recall that Governor Seyi Makinde had on Monday constituted a 15-man committee for Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (SAfER), headed by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon Segun Ogunwuyi.
The Association made the appeal in a statement issued on Tuesday by the state chairman, Femi Ajulo which was made available to newsmen in Ibadan.
The association was of the view that if the SAfER truly Governor Seyi Makinde meant well for the people of the state and to ensure ensure a softer landing for the poorest of the poor and the most vulnerable as announced by the Governor of the state.
Ajulo stated that persons with disabilities ought to be among members of the SAfER as Persons with disabilities are unargueably the worst hit of the different vulnerable groups in the Committee.
“Persons with disabilities believe that it is an oversight to assume that persons with disabilities can be safely put under any of the groups that make up the Committee ; they can not adequately represent us.
“As the universal slogan of persons with disabilities goes, “Nothing about us without us”.
“It is an axiom that he who wears the shoes knows where they pinch. Even the best of the Special Education teachers may not adequately represent us.
“It should be noted that this humble request is by no means a display of ingratitude or confrontation as we remain deeply appreciative of His Excellency’s positive track record of support for our people.
“However, the fact is that the current fuel price hike has exacerbated socioeconomic for persons with disabilities than other other people. Hence the need to allow a person with disability represent us in the Committee.
“The Joint National Association of persons with disabilities is the umbrella Association of the Deaf, the Blind, the Physically Handicapped, the Spinal Cord Injured, the Albinos and Persons with Intellectual Disabilities.
