” Somebody tun le se, Somebody da le ru”
- Daddy Showkey.
The above was one of the choruses in the many hit songs by Daddy Showkey, a reggae maestro, who held sway in the 90s. When literally translated, it means while someone is working to keep the house in order, another is working to thrash it.
The above refrain makes rhyme and reason, in the context of a recent video making the rounds on Social Media. Footages from the video showed that some thugs who were arrested with guns and other dangerous weapons in Iseyin, Oyo North Senatorial zone, by security agencies. These men were said to be on a mission to attack Hon. Shina Peller, of the APC, a member of the Federal House of Representatives.
While Governor Seyi Makinde is working hard and deploying huge state resources to ensure security of lives and property, certain elements within the opposition party are hell-bent on disrupting the peace of the land for Political gains.
Perhaps it is pertinent to ask why. The reason is not far fetched. It is all for the political benefit of the haters of peace and the successes achieved so far by the governor.
A prominent member of the opposition party, who was recently seen waving a dangerous weapon at a political event, after issuing a threat to the Chairman of the state Park Management System, Alhaji Mukaila Lamidi aka Auxillary, is alleged to be behind this latest dastardly act.
This same fellow was suspected of being in the know about the gruesome murder of the former Chairman of the NURTW in Oyo state, Alhaji Eleweomo. Yet again, this same man has been fingered as the mastermind behind the killer squad that was commissioned to eliminate Hon.Peller.
Thankfully, the investment in Security by Governor Seyi Makinde paid off as security personnel apprehended the thugs before they could execute their plans.
Let’s pause for a moment to reflect on the aftermath had those hired killers succeeded in their nefarious pursuit. Very likely, this fellow, who does not care if Oyo state burns, as long as he achieves his Political objectives, will wear a toga of a saint and stand before the people of Oyo state, after the usual condolence visit with the family of the deceased, and accuse Makinde of not doing a enough to solve the security challenges bedeviling the state. He will probably say stuffs like “How can a sitting House of Representative member be killed in broad daylight? The government has failed”. He will then milk the sad situation by turning it into a campaign event to speak glowingly of how insecurity will be a thing of the past if he becomes governor. My word ! How deadlier can a man be? One shudders at the thought and is forced to conclude that this sort of fellow, who drinks and breathes violence, should not and can not be trusted with the governance of our dear state. Indeed, he should never be anywhere close to Agodi Government House.
While Makinde is working to put the house in order, a certain ” Mr. Jagba” is working hard to wreak havoc on the peace-loving people of Oyo state, using violence as a means to his end.
During his party’s primaries held recently, but for the sound security architecture put in place by his Excellency, Governor Makinde, the state would have been engulfed in violence as the man was alleged to have made open threats against all who voiced opinions contrary to his.
Chief Niyi Akintola ( SAN ), a governorship aspirant of the All Progressive Congress commended the Governor for providing adequate security in the state and at the venue of their Primary election. Without this, a blood-thirsty “Mr Jagba” would have unleashed armageddon.
As the 2023 elections draws near, residents of the state now know which candidate and party puts violence as part of their manifesto. They are now aware that a certain “Mr.Jagba” is preparing to capture their votes through brigandage and terror.
However, thankfully, there should be no cause for alarm as the Governor has put in place all necessary security measures to ensure that people go about their businesses without fear or intimidation before, during and after the elections.
While Makinde and PDP are building Oyo state, Jagba And APC are planning otherwise.
“Somebody tun le se, Somebody da le ru”
Showkey’s song could not have said it better.
