The Oyo State House of Assembly has called upon the executive arm to address concerns raised by communities affected by the ongoing demolition of houses along the Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road in Ibadan.
The appeal, initiated by Hon. Akintunde Olajide representing Lagelu state constituency, was brought to light during a plenary session chaired by Deputy Speaker Hon. Muhammed Fadeyi.
Despite prior notifications to affected homeowners, Hon. Olajide emphasized the need for the assembly to intervene and facilitate dialogue between community members and the executive.
He clarified that the assembly’s plea aimed to alleviate the grievances of the people, without undermining the ongoing project, acknowledging Governor Makinde’s responsiveness to public concerns.
During deliberations, lawmakers including Hon. Adeola Bamidele and Hon. Sunkanmi Babalola urged Governor Makinde to reconsider the 500-meter setback requirement along the Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road to mitigate the hardships faced by residents.
Deputy Speaker Hon. Muhammed Fadeyi encouraged residents to adhere to proper land acquisition processes and urged the governor to approve the land acquisition bill passed by the 9th assembly.
The demolition, initiated by the Oyo State Government to clear the designated 500-meter setback area, commenced on Tuesday, impacting approximately 12 communities in the Ona-Ara Local Government Area.
