Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state have revealed that the State government is in talk with a major COVID-19 producing company in the world for the purchase a storable vaccine which would be used to treat infected persons in the state.
Governor Makinde disclosed this during a press conference which he had with newsmen at the government house, Agodi, Ibadan, this Wednesday.
It would be recalled that the federal government recently distribute dome vaccines to states in nigeria, Oyo state got 1,800 pieces, which is described by the governor as drop of water in an ocean, meaning the supplied vaccines is relatively small compared to the number of infected persons in the state.
The vaccine from the federal government requires a storage system of -70% centigrade which the state does not have at the moment. He stressed that the government will explore other means of getting AstraZeneca vaccines that are suitable for Oyo state due to storage instruction.
The governor also made it known to press men that the state have carried out test on 34,000 person since the virus broke out in the state, and an MoU has been signed with a private health facility to provide oxygen for the use of those with critical complications occasioned by the dreaded virus.
Governor Makinde, however, alleviates the fears of the public on the second wave of the Covid-19 in the state, noting that with the recent report he got from the experts managing the virus in Oyo state, the second wave of the pandemic is not valid in the pacesetter state.
Speaking on insecurity in the state, governor Makinde admitted that there is some friction between the Oyo state Security Network Agency and the Amotekun Corps and Police.
He, however, said the state government will set up a committee to trash out the face-off and seek alignment where necessary; as well as set up a proper information channel for the Amotekun corps.
