The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Committee of Oyo State has appealed to the Executive Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency Engr. Seyi Makinde to be represented in the palliative committee set up to cushion the effects of subsidy removal on the people the state.
In a statement signed and made available to journalists on Monday by the Chairman of the Students’ body, Comrade Adegoke Ridwan Ademola (Pal Solution) said the students community should also be included in the committee set up by the Governor to cushion the suffering of the masses which is instituted by the subsidy removal.
The Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde had on Monday constituted a 15 members committee on Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (SAfER) and made the Chief of Staff, Hon Segun Ogunwuyi the Chairman.
SAfER committee is saddled with the responsibilities of implementing the various palliatives for the citizens of Oyo State to cushion the suffering caused by the subsidy removal.
‘I am thrilled to appreciate the efforts of our able Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde for his leadership style especially in the area of masses welfarism, a Governor that doesn’t want his people to suffer, no doubt, he has raised the pace for other states to accompany.
“In the last one week, the state government had rolled out some palliative measures such as reduction in transport fares for our students, provision of more transport facilities.
“The students constituency joyously received the news of the composition of the 15 members palliative committee, we are optimistic that the distribution of the palliatives will cut across all appropriate places.
“However, we felt so sad that the students constituency doesn’t have any representative, our sister unions are properly represented in the committee.
“We are using this medium to appeal to our listening Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde to include the students constituency in the committee and in subsequent times. Oyo students believes in the leadership of Governor Makinde, we are confident that he will look into our demand by including the representative of the students body in the committee, ” he added.
