The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, convened a meeting with leaders of various student union bodies representing 17 tertiary institutions in Oyo state. The meeting, organized by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Committee, aimed to address the concerns of the students and assure them of the government’s commitment to their welfare.
During the meeting, Hon. Ogundoyin, accompanied by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Miss Wasilat Adegoke, expressed appreciation for the peaceful conduct of the students and assured them that Governor Seyi Makinde is dedicated to addressing their demands and prioritizing their welfare. The Speaker also promised to present the students’ requests to the Governor.
Speaking on behalf of the students, Adegoke Ridwan Ademola, Chairman of NANS JCC, expressed their dissatisfaction with the lack of communication from the Oyo State Government regarding their demands. They particularly emphasized the need for a student affairs representative in the government to ensure their voices are heard.
The students called on Governor Makinde to fulfill his promise of providing union buses and implement welfare packages that would alleviate the hardship they face. They also reminded the Governor of their significant support during the last election.
In response, the Speaker acknowledged the students’ support and assured them that their demands had been duly noted. He emphasized the importance of not neglecting the students who played a crucial role in the success of the administration. The Speaker pledged to present their demands to Governor Seyi Makinde for prompt action.
