Governor Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party has been in the heat of this fight for political power. Other political personalities who wished to attain the governorship position in 2023; Such as, Adelabu,Teslim Folarin, Joseph Tegbe, Niyi Akintola SAN, and others has been involved in their party political feud in Oyo State, Political skimming, politicking has engulfed opposition. Who the cap fits for the party Guber come 2023? remain a puzzle.
There has been rumors of disagreement in the All Progressive Congress, (APC), and chieftains of the opposition party, in Oyo State have been been trying to reunite aggrieved members of the party ahead of the 2023 gubernatorial elections in the state.
The APC is reconciling aggrieved members of the party in a bid to unseat the ruling party, PDP, in the state come 2023, could this be a pointer to 2023?
Governor Seyi Makinde’ first term will lapse in 2023. The crux of the matter is not whether he has the intention to run for second term, but it is if he would win if he should contest for the Oyo State gubernatorial election coming 2023.
Looking at it from the present crisis the possibility is unpredictable. As there are internal crisis within his party, PDP and there is also crisis from the opposition party.
At a stakehoders meeting earlier held by APC to reunite some members of the APC party, it was expressly stated that the major reason for meeting is to mobilize party members in order to take over the mantle of leadership in 2023.
One of the political personalities who want to emerge as the governor of Oyo State in 2023 is Adebayo Adelabu.
Recall that Adelabu contested the governorship position in Oyo State in 2019 under APC and was defeated by the incumbent governor of the state, Seyi Makinde.
Earlier on Adelabu, had during a media briefing in celebration of his 50th birthday made known his intention to contest in the coming 2023 election and has at many times said Governor Makinde would be defeated in 2023.
He had during his birthday celebration emphatically stated that Oyo APC was more united to unseat the ruling PDP government. He went further that the government in Oyo has failed to make good it’s promises to the masses.
“Everything this administration promised the people of the state is still on their wish list 16 months after coming on board. With the caliber of people that have returned to APC, no party can stand in the way of our party.”
Notably this is a jab at Seyi Makinde who might probably run for second term. Also a former governor of Oyo State, is also one of those who will probably contest the governorship seat with Seyi come 2023.
Recently Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, publicly stated that some politicians are inciting people against his government.
Recently Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, publicly stated that some politicians are inciting people against his government.
The governor noted that names like opposition party leaders like Senator Olufemi Lanlehin trying to derogate his achievements.
Recall that Olufemi Lanlehin is one of the gubernatorial candidates from ADC party, who formed coalition to support Makinde in 2019 election.
Another issue is the internal crisis in Oyo PDP, one of which is the feud between Alhaji Olopoeyan, Mulikat Akande Adeola, Fayose and the incumbent governor, where Fayose and Seyi Makinde are battling for who holds the South-west leadership mantle.
Leaders Such as Former Governor, Sen Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has been rumored not to be in good times with makinde, a pointer to why the state ZLP recent Relationships with the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state over possible realignment and Decampment ahead of 2023.
Fayose, Eddy Olafeso, Olopoeyan and the rest fraction from the PDP are hell bent on Teaching him a lesson never to forget in a hurry, if this fraction succeeded in winning the South-west Chairmanship to Eddy Olafeso, it might be a tough if not difficult mountain for Makinde to climb come 2023.
The ticket of the PDP might be determine by the outcome of the forthcoming South-west congress.
A close study of the economic impact of Seyi ‘ administration, spelt positive results. Statistics reveal that the economy of Oyo State under Governor Seyi Makinde has improved by 26% in 2020 last year despite the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Also on the issue of security Governor Seyi Makinde has in a bid to ensure security in the state has been supporting the Amotekun corps. Recently the governor masterminded the deployment of 200 Amotekun corps to Ibarapa community in order to restore peace following the farmers and herdsmen crisis in the community.
This is coming sequel to the 7days ultimatum a popular Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho gave herdsmen to vacate Igangan town in Oyo state on the ground of indiscriminate of people in Oyo State.
Taking into consideration the achievements of Governor Seyi Makinde so far since he assumed office, his chances of winning in 2023 might be challenged by opposition as his Though he’s still presume to be late with many of his decisions as it affect the people of the state.
Are we going to see a repeat of just a one term, Administration in Oyo State?
will Makinde set a back to back record which he’s Predecessor lay down?
Will intra party politics affect Makinde’s Chances come 2023?
Will the opposition party, The All Progressive Congress (APC) maintain their star studded camp and achieve their aim?
Only time will tell….we wait patiently while more Political intrigues unfold..
