The deputy national chairman (South) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Amb. Taofeek Arapaja, will take over as the national chairman of the party.
According to the agreement reached at the party’s national convention in October 2021, the presidential candidate and national chairman cannot come from the same region.
The implication of this is that the current national chairman, Sen. Iyorchia Ayu, will have to resign and the position will come to the southern part of the country.
It is however not clear if Arapaja, who is the next in line to the position from the southern part of the country, will take over in acting or substantive capacity.
